Privacy Policy
The Burrow · last updated 20 September 2026
The Burrow is a private home-automation application used by a single household to control equipment in their own home. It is not offered to the public and has no users outside that household.
What information the app accesses
- Thermostat data from Google. With the household's permission, the app uses Google's Smart Device Management API to read the current temperature, humidity, mode and setpoint of the household's own Nest thermostats, and to change the mode and setpoint.
- Home Assistant data. The state of the household's own locks, lights, cameras, speakers and sensors, held on a server in the home.
How it is used
Solely to display the state of the home to members of the household and to let them operate their own equipment. The data is not used for any other purpose.
Where it is stored
On a server owned by the household and located in the home. Thermostat readings are held only as long as the home's own history retention keeps them. Nothing is copied to any external service by this application.
What is never done with it
- It is never sold, rented or traded.
- It is never shared with third parties, advertisers or data brokers.
- It is never used for advertising, profiling or analytics.
- It is never transferred outside the household.
Google user data
The app's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Access to Nest devices can be revoked at any time from the Google account's connected apps page or from the Google Home app, which immediately ends the app's access.
Retention and deletion
Revoking access stops all further data collection. Any thermostat readings already stored on the household's own server can be deleted by clearing that server's history, and are in any case removed automatically as its retention period elapses.
Children
The application is not directed at children and collects no information from anyone outside the household.
Changes
If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted on this page with an updated date.
